Baltimore City will kick off its summer activity season with the sand sculpture contest City Sand, Saturday, June 27, noon, in the Harborplace Amphitheater. For the occasion, teams of architects, builders and design professionals will compete to see who can create the best multi-dimensional sand sculptures while incorporating the 2009 theme, Edgar Allen Poe. There will also be live music by the Only Two, the Baltimore Islanders and the Key West Band. Admission is free. Call 800-427-2671.

Latino culture

Baltimore's LatinoFest will return Saturday-Sunday, June 27-28, noon-9 p.m., in Patterson Park, at Linwood and Eastern avenues. This year's festival will feature a variety of live musical performers who will play styles ranging from salsa to meringue to reggaeton. Trains roll in

The Great Scale Model Train Show rolls into Timonium again Saturday-Sunday, June 27-28, at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. The production will showcase goods from dealers from around the country who will sell model trains, equipment and all sorts of related items. There will be 400 tables of merchandise in all. Hours are Saturday 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $9 general (good for two days) and free for children age 12 and younger. Family admission is $18. Call 410-730-1036.

Blues in the country

The Long Island band Sweet Suzi and the Blues Experience will be among acts at the Summertime Blues Festival, Saturday, June 27, 2-8 p.m., at the Steppingstone Museum in Havre de Grace. The outdoor event will feature live blues music by local, regional and national acts, plus food, beer and wine. Admission is $20 in advance or $25 at the gate. Call 410-939-2299.

Coins in Annapolis

The Colonial Coin Club will sponsor its annual Annapolis Coin and Currency Show on Sunday, June 28, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., in the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2590 Solomon's Island Road. This free event will showcase rare coins and paper money brought in by some 30 dealers from around the region. Dealers will also be buying coins, and visitors can get coins appraised. Waters outdoors

The Village of Cross Keys closes out its MovieFest outdoor screenings with a showing of John Waters' "Cry Baby" on Saturday, June 27, 8:45 p.m., in the Cross Keys courtyard. Pre-screening festivities start at 6 p.m., with food, drink, music and prizes in the village square. Pre-movie dinner specials will also be offered at each of the Cross Keys restaurants, including Crossroads, Donna's Cafe and the Village Square Cafe. Go to www.villageofcrosskeys.com.

Rock the wine

Linganore Winecellars will hold a Rock 'n' Roll Wine Festival on Saturday-Sunday, June 27-28, at 13601 Glissans Mill Road in Mount Airy. The weekend will feature crafts, wine tastings, and music by Never Never and Uptown East. Admission is $15 general, $10 for anyone 18-20 and free for people under age 18 with an adult. Fun in Pennsylvania

The Kutztown Folk Festival takes place June 27-July 5, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., at the Kutztown Fairgrounds, in Kutztown, Pa. The family-oriented festival celebrates Pennsylvania Dutch folklife and attracts around 150,000 visitors each year. Admission is $12 general, $11 for seniors and free for children 12 and under.
