The B&O Railroad Museum will celebrate old-fashioned railroading with its annual Railfest Steam Days Event, Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 17-18. Visitors can hop aboard the museum's historic steam locomotive, the No. 4 St. Elizabeth, or see the newest acquisition, a 1938 fireless steam locomotive. The Blacksmiths Guild of Central Maryland will give demonstrations. Hours are Saturday, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $14 general, $12 for seniors, and $8 for ages 2-12. A disco benefit

The Walters Art Museum will hold its annual fall fundraiser, A Knight at the Disco, Saturday, Oct. 17, 9 p.m., in the museum's Sculpture Court. It can be accessed at the Centre Street entrance. Raffles for the students

The Community College of Baltimore County's Essex Foundation will hold a Fall Classic Raffle and Bull Roast Sunday, Oct. 18, 12:30-4:30 p.m., at Martin's East, at 9000 Pulaski Highway in Middle River. Paws for a cause

The fifth annual BARCStoberfest & Strut Your Mutt Walk will happen Saturday, Oct. 17, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at Patterson Park, at the corner of Eastern and Linwood streets. The event, sponsored by the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, is held to raise awareness and funds for the 12,000 animals BARCS takes in each year. Better homes and crafts

The annual Fall Maryland Home, Garden Show & Lifestyles Show and Maryland Holiday Craft Show will run Friday-Sunday, Oct. 16-18, at the Maryland State Fairgrounds. The home show will feature exhibitors showcasing everything from doors to deck design. The craft show's exhibitors will run the gamut from dolls to decoys. Hours are Friday-Saturday 10 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is $9 general, $6 for seniors, and $3 for children ages 6-12. Call 410-863-1180.

Russian culture

Baltimore City's Showcase of Nations Ethnic Festivals closes its season with the annual Russian Festival Friday-Sunday, Oct. 16-18, at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 1723 E. Fairmount Ave. The event will feature homemade breads, a Russian tea room, traditional food, live music and crafts. Hours are Friday-Saturday, noon-9 p.m., and Sunday noon-6 p.m. Admission is $2 on Saturday and Sunday, and free on Friday. Call 410-276-6171.

Powerboats in Annapolis

Annapolis will host the 37th annual United States Powerboat Show Thursday-Sunday, Oct. 15-18, at the City Dock and Harbor. Billed as the oldest in-water powerboat show in the country, this event will feature the newest in sport boats, including ski boats, jet boats and runabouts. Thursday is VIP Day; hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Other show hours are Friday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Admission is $17 general and $4 for children 12 and younger. Jazz and wine

Linganore Winecellars will host its annual Vintage Jazz Fest Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 17-18, at its homebase at Berrywine Plantations (13601 Glissans Road in Mt Airy). On the bill each day will be the Greg Hatza Organization (noon-3 p.m.) and the David Bach Consort (3:30-6 p.m.). There will also be winery tours, crafts for sale and picnic food.
