Brochin: Democracy would really work

Sen. Jim Brochin, a Democrat who represents the 42nd District, weighed in today on the issue of County Council work sessions being held during the day.

Brochin, speaking today on WBAL Radio’s C4 show with former state senator Clarence Mitchell IV, said many of his constituents have expressed a desire to have the council move the work sessions to the evening.

“The work sessions are during the day, and people work during the day,” said Brochin, a two-term senator who represents Towson, Timonium and part of Pikesville.

“If they had these things at night, Democracy could really work,” Brochin said.

Wow! The same day Brochin endorses O'Malley for re-election he shows his hypocrisy. O'Malley brought us dead of the night record tax increase and budgets jammed full of billions of dollars of new spending. Brochin may want "democracy" for council work sessions but he doesn't want it for the state legislators who love to make back room deals that harm our state. His time of making back room deals with O'Malley to tax us more needs to end! Brochin needs to go. Then he can enjoy the "democracy" of County Council's work sessions.

I think it's definitely time to send Brochin packing. Two-terms is two too many. It's time that the people in the 42nd district didn't have an ultra-progressive liberal who isn't in lock-step with Governor O'Malley in every single tax increase that comes up for a vote. He can say what he wants in terms of wanting to help his constituency, but he has been more than willing to vote against their interests time and time again.

I certainly don't agree with Senator Brochin's endorsement of Martin O'Malley, who by nearly every measure has been worse than Bob Ehrlich when it comes to Baltimore County. However, I do commend him for challenging the Smith administration and the "status quo" on issues like school overcrowding and other local matters. I don't see any of that independence from some of my Democratic state legislators in northeastern Baltimore County.
