It is the second new incubator to be launched at the bwtech@UMBC park in less than a month; the Advantage Incubator@bwtech -- which caters to federal services companies owned by minorities, women or veterans -- opened there in early August.
A combined project between bwtech@UMBC, the Maryland Clean Energy Center in Montgomery County and the Baltimore County Department of Economic Development, CETI will provide business support to young companies that are focused on clean energy technologies and creating green jobs in the state.
The project is the first of what is hoped to be many clean energy incubators planned for the state, according to an announcement.
CETI will occupy 18,000 square feet of space in the park's southern campus off Gun Road, where the U.S. Geological Survey's Maryland-Delaware-District of Columbia Water Science Center is already located.
The incubator will house companies working with a broad range of energy technologies, including wind and solar power and energy management and storage.
According to a statement by Katherine Magruder, executive director of the Maryland Clean Energy Center, "The intention (of CETI) is to draw from the depth and variety of the research presence in the state, and use the incubator network to move discoveries from the bench to the bank in the commercialization pipeline."
The project will initially be funded by bwtech@UMBC, the Maryland Clean Energy Center and the county's economic development office.
