A new branch for a popular restaurant is now also Pikesville’s first recipient of county funds aimed at revitalizing older properties.
Mari Luna Latin Grille, the second location for chef Jamie Luna’s award-winning restaurant, is the first business to open in the 1006-1010 block of Reisterstown Road.
JSJ Properties, the property’s developer, received $300,000 from the county’s Pikesville Redevelopment Fund toward its total cost of $2 million to buy and redevelop the vacant site.
The fund was established in 2007 and gives incentives to restore vacant or underutilized properties in the Pikesville Commercial Revitalization District, along Reisterstown Road.
There are two other spaces in the block available for leasing.
Luna also qualified for a $60,000 loan from the county’s investment loan program.
The new restaurant opened several weeks ago and Luna’s daughter, Carla Luna, said her father and mother, Mari Luna, had planned to open the new location for a while and was glad the county reached out to help them.
