Alpi Nuri Hair Salon, owned by partners Alpi (Alpaslan) Unal and Nuri Senol, has signed a lease with Obrecht Properties for retail space at The Shops at Quarry Lake. The salon, expected to open in December, will operate Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

David Desser has been named top producer and the agent with the most new listings for the month of October in the Pikesville office of Long & Foster.

Pikesville High School recognized bestselling author Mike Sager with its 19th Distinguished Alumni Award at an assembly Nov. 14 in the school auditorium. Sager, a 1974 graduate of Pikesville High, recently published “Wounded Warriors: Those for Whom the War Never Ends,” a collection of articles on both famous and ordinary Americans who are being treated for brain injuries.

Erwin “Erv” Sekulow, of Pikesville, received the 2008 Andrus Award for Community Service from AARP of Maryland, the association’s highest volunteer award. Sekulow has been president of AARP in Maryland’s Executive Council for the past six years, and has been an active volunteer with Experience Corps, which mentors Baltimore City public school students.

Rebecca Alvarado, ESOL teacher  at Owings Mills High School and Emily Caster, a teacher at New Town High School,have attained National Boardcertification.

Greater Baltimore Medical Center has named Keith Jackson, of Owings Mills, as clinical manager of Unit 37, Critical Care.  Jackson has significant experience in medical, surgical, telemetry and intensive care nursing.
