Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce

The Greater Catonsville Chamber of Commerce presented Mark Erickson and Sally Griffin with its top business awards during its annual Catonsville business awards dinner last month at the Rolling Road Golf Club.

The chamber named Erickson, chief operating officer and president of health and operations for Erickson Retirement Communities, its Business Person of the Year and presented its President's Award to Griffin, branch vice-president of Coldwell Banker in Catonsville.

Erickson, who had agreed to be the evening's guest speaker without being aware he was also to be honored during the event, shared a history of Charlestown's 25 years in Catonsville and spoke of the state of elder care, Erickson's achievements and vision for the future.

Erickson is responsible for the operations and development of the core senior housing business for Erickson.

He oversees the operations of a $1 billion business that employs about 11,000 who help serve more than 22,000 seniors at 18 continuing-care retirement communities across the country.

Chamber President George Brookhart, with his customary enthusiasm, gave the President's Award to a very surprised Griffin.

Griffin, branch vice president of the office on Frederick Road since 2004, was chosen for her community involvement and dedication, and her outstanding work as a chamber board member and chairwoman of the program committee.

Coldwell Banker has been a mainstay in Catonsville since 1955 and, through Griffin's leadership, has continued its commitment to the community through its annual charity art auction and support of the Catonsville July Fourth Celebration.

Griffin also demonstrates her commitment to the community at large by mentoring and tutoring inner-city children.
