Two companies in the business park on the University of Maryland, Baltimore County campus are among the 18 finalists named by the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development, the Maryland Technology Development Corporation, RSM McGladrey Inc., and Saul Ewing LLC for the ninth annual Maryland Incubator Company of the Year Awards.
Amethyst Technologies and Columbia BioSystems, Inc. were among those nominated for the awards, which recognize the achievements of current and graduate companies within Maryland's incubators.
Awards will be made in various categories.
Previous years' categories included Life Science Company of the Year, Information Technology Company of the Year, Technology Service Company of the Year, Homeland Security Company of the Year, New Incubator Company of the Year, Technology Transfer Company of the Year and Graduate Company of the Year.
"This year's finalists demonstrate the wide variety of life-changing innovations being developed in our state in the areas of technology, health care, business services and other industries," said Brian Meritt, a managing director of RSM McGladrey Inc.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Center Club in Baltimore on June 16.
"The Incubator Company of the Year Awards is a terrific way to recognize and showcase Maryland's technology community," said Renée Winsky, president and executive director of TEDCO.
"The individual achievements and accomplishments of these standout companies are a great indication of the strength of our state's technology-based economy."
