Joanne Williams was nominated to be director of the county's Department of Aging, replacing Arnold Eppel. County Council will hold a confirmation hearing on Williams' nomination June 30 at 3 p.m. Williams was appointed deputy of the Department of Aging in January 2008.

Army National Guard Pvt. Travis Rambert graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Rambert, the son of Shawanda Rambert, of Sparks, graduated from Hereford High School in 2008.
James Fish, director of the Baltimore County Public Library, was appointed by Gov. O'Malley to become a member and chairman of the Maryland Advisory Council on Libraries for the remainder of a five-year term ending June 30, 2010.
Amy Deputy, of Sparks and owner of Amy Deputy Photography, was selected by American Photo Magazine as one of the top 10 photographers in the United States.
Marine Corps 1st Lt. Brian Layman, son of Nancy and Bill Layman, of White Hall, was recently designated an aviator while serving with Training Squadron 22, Naval Air Station, in Kingsville, Texas. Layman is a 2001 graduate of Hereford High School and joined the Marine Corps in March 2006. He is a 2005 graduate of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in Daytona Beach, Fla. with a bachelor's of science degree.
George Perdikakis Sr. was hired by KCI Technologies Inc., a multi-disciplined engineering firm, to serve as the company's director of corporate communications, marketing and special projects. He will lead the firm's national and international marketing efforts.
Lindsay Wells, of Monkton, was awarded a teaching fellowship from Knowles Science Teaching Foundation, worth up to $150,000 over five years. The fellowships are awarded yearly to early career teachers dedicated to making an impact in science and mathematics education.
First Lt. Hugh Miler has successfully completed his Army Ranger Training at Fort Benning, Ga. His unit, the 2nd Platoon, 12th Regiment of the 4th Brigade, which is based at Ft. Carson, Colo., has been deployed to Afghanistan, effective June 2009, for one year. He is the son of Lloyd and Marguerite Miller, of Monkton.
