Rose of Sharon Equestrian School, which provides therapeutic riding sessions for children and adults with disabilities, received two $500 Agency Hands in the Community grants from the Allstate Foundation.

Gilchrist Hospice Care, in Hunt Valley, received a Circle of Life Citation of Honor from the American Hospital Association.

Weston Fellows, 25, of Monkton, was recognized July 7 by Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith, for winning the Inaugural Maryland Half Marathon. The race, held May 31, raised $238,000 for the University of Maryland Marlene Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center.

Matthew Antonio, of the Sparks 4H Club, won Reserve Champion Steer at the Maryland Angus Breeder's Show in Queenstown, Md., June 3. Antonio also won first in the class with his April heifer.

Ron Roberts, of Sparks, a member of the Maryland Defense Force, has earned the Military Emergency Management Specialist qualification badge. The award of the MEMS badge recognizes an individual's completion of a challenging program of study preparing them to effectively operate in a local or statewide emergency operation. Roberts has served in the defense force for more than five years.
