Craig Longenecker offered to buy children's Halloween candy for $1 a pound and send it to Afghanistan and Iraq.
His Halloween Cash 4 Candy program, held Nov. 7, netted about 80 pounds of chocolate, licorice and lollipops.
Longenecker said the sweets will go to three Marines, Sgt. Zach Ritter, of Monkton, and Sgt. Scott Wilt and Lance Cpl. Robert Meadowcroft, both of Freeland.
The buy-back program was open to the community. Alex and Maggie Jenkins, 7, both first-graders at Our Lady of Grace School, contributed 6 pounds of assorted candy to the drive.
"They got so much candy this year. They were really good about it," said the twins' mother, Kasey Jenkins, of Parkton. "Their first reaction was to give what they didn't like, but we talked about who was getting it and then they gave most of it away. They did save a little for themselves."
