Cockeysville

Jim Laughland, of Cockeysville, recently won the High Grand Senior class in the NRA National High Power, Service Rifle Championships in Camp Perry, Ohio. Surrounded by his family at the awards ceremony, he received a plaque for shooting the high score in his class of shooters, ages 70 and older. Jim beat the runner-up in his class by only 10 points out of a possible 2,400. Jim moved here in Maryland in 1962 from New York and worked for Westinghouse for more than 42 years. He and his wife, the former Sally Gatchell, have been married for more than 40 years and their four children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren all live within 20 minutes of each other. Jim credits his resiliency in overcoming a wide variety of health problems to the athletic regimen he has been a part of at the local Cockeysville Senior Center Fitness Center, even competing in last September's Senior 5K Run and completing the run in 32 minutes.
