Now in its 22nd year, the Reisterstown Festival on Sept. 6 and 7 at Hannah More Park will treat thousands of visitors to concerts, games and many other activities.

The free festival attracted about 10,000 visitors last year, event organizer Dee Cooper said.

And this year, she added, "There's just so much to do."

Highlights include performances by area musical acts, including blues musicians Linwood Taylor and Deanna Bogart. RAM, which plays the music of Paul McCartney, will also perform.

The festival will begin with the annual parade on Main Street at 9 a.m. Sept. 6. The parade route starts at Franklin Middle School and ends at Hannah More Park.

There are several new events to appeal to teenagers, including laser tag and a text messaging contest. According to Cooper, the teens are given a paragraph to type as a text message. The contestant who copies and sends the message the fastest wins a $250 gift certificate for the Tutoring Club. Runners-up win gift cards good for music downloads.

Other activities include a car show, clown performances and Civil War re-enactments.

"We provide entertainment for the entire family while you're there," Cooper said. "It's not like when the parents come out (to the festival) there's nothing for the kids to do while you're there."

The festival is sponsored by Comcast, Susquehanna Bank, Minuteman Press, the Owings Mills Times and other businesses.
