Lexi Docken, a student at Warren Elementary School, was honored at the Kids Helping Hopkins kickoff celebration Oct. 2 as a "Children's Champion" for her work with the fundraiser to benefit sick children at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Lexi was the Student Leadership Team representative for Karen Eberly's kindergarten class last year. She was recognized for going above and beyond in her work to encourage her class to bring in items for the gift bags that were provided for the patients. Laura Smith, Warren's school counselor, nominated Lexi because she read several morning announcements to encourage schoolwide participation in this fundraiser. There were several speakers at his event, including county schools superintendent Joe Hairston and Nancy Grasmick, state superintendent of schools.
