Carney

I finally got my fingers thawed out enough to tackle the keyboard, so here's what's up in our neighborhood.

Ed and Marian Romans, longtime Carney residents, shared an update of recent happy family happenings :

Oldest daughter, Kathy Romans-Judge and her husband Daniel Judge welcomed their first child and the first granddaughter for Ed and Marion. Cordellia May Judge was born at Johns Hopkins Bayview on July 7.

Their son Phillip married Becky Strasser on Aug. 2. The best man was Matthew James, son of Kathy and Joe James, of Old Harford Road. Matthew, who lives in England, traveled to Baltimore with his family to participate in the wedding ceremony held at Westminster Hall in downtown Baltimore. Phil and Becky now make their home in Perry Hall.

Their daughter Sarah lives in Newark, Del., with husband James Weldin and their two sons. In June, Ed, grandson Joshua and son- in- law James toured WWII battlefields in France, Belgium and Germany.

Marion also reported that the Glen Arm Garden Club has a full fall schedule that includes a visit to Marshy Point Nature Center, drying and arranging hydrangeas and monthly visits to Morningside House.

Several years ago, Ed started a handyman business, Garage Guy LLC. He can be contacted at 410-802-8620 or Garageremodeling@Yahoo.com if you want to inquire about the services he offers.

Here's a recycling tip--You know those pesky little styrofoam peanuts that come with just about everything you order by mail? Well, instead of tossing them in the trash, where they will end up in a landfill forever, take them to Postman Plus in the Carney Village Shopping Center. Store owner Joe Greenbeck said he will recycle them. 410-665-3211.

Hiss United Methodist Church-- 8700 Harford Road, will hold a scrapbooking fundraiser Nov. 8, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with worshops including "Make and Take" projects by Elizabeth Eaton, a creative memories consultant, and "Stampin Up" with Alison Flagg and Carol Jagoe. A light breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks will be provided.

There will be door prizes. The $25 cost also includes use of all scrapbook tools. Space is limited, so call 410-668-5665 to register, or send check payable to Hiss United Methodist Church, attention Sue Crue, along with your personal information.

You are also invited to join the crochet group, which meets every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. During the year they create over 150 afghans that are donated to needy organizations and baby afghans that are donated to all babies baptized at Hiss.

The annual oyster and ham dinner and fall bazaar will be held Nov. 15.

St. Isaac Jogues Towson Senior Rebels invite you to join them to American Music Theatre and Shady Maple Smorgasbord on Dec. l0. Enjoy a delicious lunch before the show, and then relax and celebrate those iconic songsters Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and Rosemary Clooney.
