Baltimore Highlands

Security was the main topic for consideration at the Greater Baltimore Highlands Community Association's monthly meeting Nov. 3. Officer Jim Wickless reported a spike in minor crimes in our neighborhood. He suggested we resume the Citizens on Patrol program, utilized a few years ago. Such groups act as eyes and ears for the police department in other communities, such as Lansdowne. Training sessions are available for putting COP back in place.

Members in attendance were Rich and Pat Parker, Bill Hann, Sandra McCadden, Alisa Lilly, Harriet Pittman, Tom Colgan Sr. and Kris Bury.

Pat Leuschner, John and Virginia Toomey, Teri Sprkoski, Albert Nalley, Linda Heady and Steve McCullen also attended, as did Pastor Lauren Lay, Ron Ware, Mike Lynch, Jean Seiss, Joan Mitchell, Larry and Carol Borkowicy.

The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m on Nov. 17 at Christ United Methodist Church.

Christ United Methodist Church, 2833 Florida Ave., will host a paint party from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, as a fundraiser for Southwest Emergency Services.

Sponsored by Interfaith Partnership, young people will gather to paint canvases and the art will be auctioned from 6-7 p.m., Nov. 26, at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 141 Lavern Ave., Lansdowne. All are invited to enjoy music, food and fun in support of the artists.

The Interfaith Partnership's annual Thanksgiving Eve worship service begins at 7:15 p.m.

To donate, call Christ United Methodist Church, 410-789-9058 or Evangelical Lutheran Church, 410-247-2141.

The English Consul Volunteer Fire Department distributed plastic bags to homes in Baltimore Highlands. When Santa Claus arrives on Christmas Eve, the bags will be collected, hopefully filled with loose change.

The need is greater than ever this year. These men and women protect us from fire, storms and other emergencies. The normal operating expenses increased with the purchase of a $160,000 ambulance.

For information on making a donation or joining the department, call 410-636-4433.
