An 89-year-old Arbutus resident was robbed and briefly kidnapped June 19 after being approached by a man with a gun at his home on Shelbourne Avenue, police said.

At 5:30 p.m., the man was sitting on his porch in the 5200 block of Shelbourne when an unknown man approached the house and displayed a gun.

After forcing his way into the home, the man put a pillow over the head of the resident's 83-year-old wife, then put his gun to the pillow, police said.

The intruder rummaged through the couple's home, then demanded that the older man drive him to a bank to withdraw cash, police said.

After the older man did so, his alleged kidnapper forced him to drive into Baltimore and drop him off, police said.

The couple were not injured, and police are investigating the incident, said Bill Toohey, a Baltimore County police spokesman.

Information, including the location of the bank where the money was withdrawn, is being withheld to protect the investigation, Toohey said.
