It has been six years since Brandon Malstrom’s family hastily organized a lacrosse game on Thanksgiving weekend to remember the 20-year-old who was killed at an off-campus homecoming party at the University of Maryland.

That first year, Brandon’s teammates from his Dulaney High School lacrosse team played an alumni game followed by a bull roast. Money was raised to fund a scholarship for a Dulaney student in Malstrom’s name.

That tradition continues. The annual lacrosse game will begin on Sat., Nov. 29,  at 11 a.m. on Dulaney’s fields. A bull roast at Oregon Ridge Lodge runs from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

“It is like a class reunion and a family reunion,” said Paul Malstrom, Brandon’s uncle, who helps organize the event for Brandon’s parents, Bill and Carol Malstrom of Phoenix. “It’s nice to see Bill and Carol stay connected with Brandon’s friends and their parents. It’s a heart-warming day of the year.”

Since 2003, the Brandon James Malstrom Memorial Foundation has awarded $37,500 to Dulaney graduates. Four students currently received $1,500 per semester, contingent on maintaining a 3.0 GPS or better.

The foundation also paid for a scoreboard at Dulaney High School’s football field.

Tickets to the bull roast are available for $30 and can be ordered by calling 410-628-6261.
