The following North County area students are named finalists in the Letters about Literature 2009 Awards competition, and will be honored at a ceremony during the CityLit Festival, to be held April 18 at the Enoch Pratt Free Library, in Baltimore.

The Letters about Literature contest encourages students in grades four through 12 to read, be inspired and write to an author who has somehow changed their view of the world or themselves.

*Muska Kamran, of Dulaney High School, wrote about Isabel Allende's "Daughter of Fortune."

*Kristin Meek, of Phoenix, wrote about Mary Downing Hahn's "Stepping on the Cracks."

*Alice Sebold's "Lovely Bones," was the focus of Lauren Jasion, of Dulaney High School.

*Kristy Chang, of Dulaney High School, wrote about Nicholas Sparks's "A Walk to Remember."

*And Magdalena Petrova, of Dulaney High School, wrote about Jose Saramago's book, "Blindness."

The following area students were named to the dean's list of Stevenson University, in Stevenson:

*Ryan Krempel, a biology major, of Baldwin.

*Jennifer Schulte, a human services major and psychology minor, of Glen Arm.

*Rebecca Talbot, a computer information systems major, of Glen Arm.

*Kathleen A. Kelbaugh, an elementary education major, of Hampstead.

*Timothy Wrightson, a computer information systems major, of Hydes.

*Kristen Thompson, a business administration major, of Parkton.

*Kristie Lynn Kline, a human services major, of Phoenix.

*Christie Strucko, an accounting major, of Sparks.

*Caroline Wilhelm, a business administration major, of Upperco.

*Bradley Hart, a forensic studies major, of White Hall.

*Mary Kundratic, of White Hall.

*June Struder, a nursing major, of White Hall.
