Laura Sansosti, of Monkton, recently graduated cum laude from Muhlenberg College, in Allentown, Pa., with a bachelor’s degree in biology and a minor in economics. Sansosti is a 2005 graduate of Notre Dame Preparatory School, in Towson, and previously attended St. James Academy in Monkton. In the fall she will enter the Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine, in Philadelphia.
Abigail Balaban, of Phoenix, was recognized as a member of the Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Sciences at Widener University, in Chester, Pa.
Ian Craig, of White Hall, was recently accepted into the doctoral program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. A 2000 graduate of Hereford High School, Craig obtained his bachelor of science in geography in 2005 and a master’s degree in geography in 2007 from the University of Maryland. He is currently finishing up a master’s degree at the School of Public Health. While he was getting his first master’s degree, Craig worked for then-Baltimore Mayor Martin O’Malley’s administration in city planning and then for the town of Gibson, Colo., in the engineering department.
Senior Jennifer Lowell, of Phoenix, and junior Daniel Bernstein of Freeland, were inducted into the McDonogh School Cum Laude Society, a national honor society recognizing academic achievements, modeled after the Phi Beta Kappa collegiate honor society.
The following area students were named to the dean’s list at Washington College, in Chestertown:
• Erin Birely, of Phoenix, a junior majoring in psychology;
• Erin Harrison, of Butler, a senior majoring in art;
• Robin Heese, of Phoenix, a sophomore;
• Meghan Lepley, of Baldwin, a freshman;
• Jennifer Malat, of Phoenix, a senior majoring in English and Hispanic studies;
• Allyson Yawman, of Phoenix, a sophomore.
Thomas Al Naber, a freshman at Daniel Webster College. in Nashua, N.H., qualified as a private pilot through the school’s Aviation Flight Operations degree program. Naber is a 2008 graduate of Hereford High School and the son of Salem and Mary Al Naber, of Parkton.
Patricia May, daughter of Joe and Karen May, of Phoenix, was accepted into Phi Kappa Phi, the international honor society, at Salisbury University. May is a junior majoring in elementary education. She graduated from Dulaney High School in 2006.
Amanda Clark, daughter of Lisa and Michael Clark, of Hydes, received the Trinity Transport Scholarship at the 2009 Spring Honors Convocation at Salisbury University. Clark is a senior majoring in finance and management. She is a 2005 graduate of Perry Hall High School.
The following area students graduated May 24 from Cornell University, in Ithaca, N.Y.
• Daniel Miller, of White Hall, earned a bachelor of science in animal science;
• Jennifer Neubauer, of Monkton, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Russian;
• Robert Harvey, of Sparks, earned a bachelor of science in landscape architecture.
Hereford High School senior Kate Hall won the Northern Baltimore County Art Foundation’s 2009 fine art scholarship. She received a $1,000 scholarship and will attend the Maryland Institute College of Art, in Baltimore. Hall, 17, submitted photographs that were judged by six artists, including Hereford High School graduate Katie Martello, last year’s scholarship recipient who now attends Syracuse University. Hall lives in Parkton and is the daughter of Nancy and Brian Hall.
Daniel Rodgers, of Phoenix, was presented the Ray Siegfried Award for Leadership Excellence from University of Notre Dame, in Indiana. Rodgers, a graduating senior, completed a double major in theology and pre-professional studies.
Amy Asendorf, of Hereford High School, was recognized by Baltimore County Public Schools for winning a 2009 Baltimore County Public School Ethics Award.
Hereford High School seniors Rebecca Neubauer and Katy Jackson won awards for the state of Maryland in the National Peace Essay Contest, sponsored by the U.S. Institute of Peace. Neubauer, who wrote about civil war in Congo and tribal genocide in Rwanda, won first place. Jackson, who wrote about civil war in Somalia and genocide in Bosnia, won honorable mention. Neubauer will get a $1,000 scholarship and the opportunity for further competition.
