On June 13, High Strung, a five-member band based out of Timonium and Lutherville, will offer a blend of traditional and non-traditional bluegrass.
The band's unique sound is influenced by the bluegrass sound of Flatt and Scruggs to the 1950s, '60s and '70s music to the pop sounds of the Beatles.
"Our shows are filled with songs we get a kick out of playing, and we hope our audiences can tell how much fun we're having," said mandolin player and vocalist John Howell on the band's MySpace page.
On June 14, The Bayside Big Band will present that sound that can only come from a 17-piece orchestra belting out jazz and the music of the 1940s.
Like High Strung, the big band is not afraid to showcase the old and the new, going back to the days of Benny Goodman and Count Basie and then moving forward to the modern sounds of the Brian Setzer Orchestra.
Shows at the Lurman are free and open to the public.
Donations are accepted to help support the program, now in its 18th season.
Families are encouraged to enjoy the woodland setting, where children can play and older listeners enjoy the music.
Bring a blanket and a picnic basket. Food and refreshments are available for purchase. Lawn chairs are welcome, but alcoholic beverages and pets are not.
