A historical marker locating the old village of Indian Rock will be erected this summer near Perry Hall Elementary School, at the intersection of Joppa and Belair roads.

The Baltimore County Historical Trust gave $750 to the Perry Hall Improvement Association for the historical marker, said David Marks, president of the community group.

Indian Rock was a village that developed in the early 1800s on a road known as the Baltimore and Jerusalem Turnpike, now Belair Road

A man from Indian Rock, Pa., named Frank Goettner moved into Bishop’s Inn, a converted tollhouse on the turnpike, in 1908. He and his family renamed the inn the Indian Rock Hotel.

Over the years the hotel became a butcher shop, and eventually, it was torn down in 1985 and replaced by a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant.
