A popular Pikesville restaurant and it’s storage space in a storefront next door were damaged in a two-alarm fire Wednesday, county fire officials said.
Elise Armacost, a spokeswoman for the Baltimore County Fire Department, said about 80 firefighters with about 30 pieces of equipment responded to the 4:57 p.m. call to the Suburban House at 911 Reisterstown Road, in Pikesville.
Upon arrival, the first crew, from the Pikesville fire house, saw substantial fire and called for a second alarm.
The fire was contained in about 30 minutes, Armacost said.
An employee told firefighters he smelled smoke when he was in the storage space, where the restaurant’s canned goods and kitchen supplies are stored.
The employee alerted co-workers, who evacuated about 30 customers.
No one was injured in the blaze.
Around 9 a.m. July 9, the cause of the fire was still under investigation. The fire department estimated damage to the Suburban House at $900,000.
