While Saturday’s rain put a damper on the 23rd annual Reisterstown Festival, Sunday’s sun and moderate temperatures drew a “marvelous turnout,” said Dee Cooper, who organized the festival’s parade.

Fortunately, she said, the rain didn’t start until after the parade that opened the festival at 9 a.m., so the day’s events started out as she and festival organizers had hoped.

Residents lined the street and cheered the honor guard from the American Legion, Post 116. But the intermittent rain led to festival-goers coming and going at Hannah More Park.

Saturday evening, about an hour before the fireworks, Cooper said, the rain stopped, and reset the weather dial for a more hospitable day on Sunday.

The all-volunteer judges panel gave out awards in the following categories to those in the parade:

Bands:  In-full Motion, first place; Towson High School, second place; and Loch Raven High School, third place.

Floats: Hideaway Farms, first place; Republican Corn Roast Committee, second place; Patriot Appraisals, third place.

Fire companys: Reisterston Volunteer Fire Company, first place; Owings Mills Volunteer Fire Company, second place; and Glyndon Volunteer Fire Company, thiird place.

Honor guards: Buffalo Soldiers’ Motorcycle Club, first place; Franklin High School JROTC, second place; and the American Legion, Post 116, third place.

Vintage vehicles: Mel Gosstein, first place; Chuck Talbert II, second place; and Robert Latimer, third place.

Judges awards, which are in no particular order, were: Taz Cruiser, Wheel Deal Racing, The Cow, Buffalo Soldiers’  Cavalary Unit, Boy Scout Troop 635 and Gary’s Bridgade.

Cooper said the festival organizers will give themselves a month’s break before they meet again to plan the next year’s festival.
