In Hereford, the number 13 is lucky. Last week, County Executive Jim Smith came to Hereford High School to officially unveil its artificial turf field, the 13th one installed in the county.
Smith cut a ribbon before the varsity football game against Milford Mill on Sept. 25. He was joined by Del. Wade Kach, Councilman T. Bryan McIntire, Hereford principal John Bereska, as well as Richard Butt, president, Hereford Recreation and Parks Council, Mike Kalisz, Hereford’s athletic director, and several of Hereford’s varsity football players.
Since the artificial turf field is not damaged by inclement weather or drought, it can be used year-round by teams from the high school as well as local recreation councils.
It will be used for football, soccer, lacrosse and field hockey.
The field was installed by the county’s Department of Recreation and Parks.
