The Baltimore County police officer who was shot during a deadly encounter in Overlea is doing “fine” after being treated and released from a local hospital, police spokesman Bill Toohey said Monday.

The officer — identified only as “Officer Parker,” because of a police department agreement with the local branch of the Fraternal Order of Police — has served on the county police force for 23 years.

The suspect who shot Parker is identified as Paul Boss, 47, of the 6800 block of Highview Avenue, in Overlea. Boss was killed during a shootout with police, officers said.

The incident began Friday at 5:24 p.m., when Parker responded to a call for a domestic dispute on Highview Avenue. When Parker arrived, he saw Boss assaulting a woman outside Boss’ house, police said. Boss then turned and shot the officer in the shoulder, police said.

Parker returned fire and called for backup. Other officers arrived and exchanged fire with Boss, police said.

Parker was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital, where he was treated Friday night and released.
