A Baltimore County Council bill that would banning the use of tanning beds by anyone younger than 18 will top the agenda at the County Council’s work session Tuesday.

Democratic Councilman Vince Gardina said he proposed the bill after reading studies linking certain types of skin cancer to people who use the beds at a young age.

Only minors with a doctor’s order will be allowed to use the devices, under Gardina’s bill.

“If it’s bad, and the studies indicate that it is bad for you, then I don’t think it should be allowed ... period,” said Gardina, who represents the 5th District including Perry Hall, Parkville and Towson.

The council will discuss the bill at a 2 p.m. meeting in the Old Courthouse in Towson.

A final vote is scheduled for Nov. 16.
