On Saturday, a tractor trailer fatally hit a Parkville man who was trying to cross Interstate 695 at Harford Road on foot.

The State Medical Examiner’s Office pronounced the man dead at the site of his attempted crossing. The man’s identity is being held while officials try to notify his next of kin.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Jerry Lyn Brooks, 46, of Ellicott City, was not injured, according to a Maryland State Police release. Brooks was driving a rig owned by the Exxon Corp.

The state police release said alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

Troopers, the Maryland State Police Crash Team and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division are investigating the accident.

I was driving with friends on I-695 and arrived at this accident scene only minutes after it occurred. I work for an engineering company with the traffic department and have witnessed many accidents, but his one is by far the worst I've seen. Hopefully this article will make people consider both pedestrian and driving safety. It is not worth being reckless and risking your life or your families lives just to save a few minutes of time. My sympathy goes out to the victim's family.

My brother and I drove by this man seconds after he was hit and my brother, an EMT. was the first responder. He died in front of our eyes. Such a horrible tragedy. He was lying on the cold road with rain and snow falling on him. I can't forget how tragic it was.
