Baltimore County police have charged the driver of a UPS truck involved in a fatal accident in Monkton on Oct. 5 with three traffic citations, according to police spokesman Cpl. Mike Hill.
The accident at the intersection of York and Corbett roads in Monkton killed Tim Wheatley, 48, of Monkton, who was driving his 9-year-old daughter, Sarah, to Sparks Elementary School. Sarah Wheatley was critically injured in the accident and has since been released from the hospital.
The UPS driver, Kevin Callahan, 28, of Owings Mills, was charged with negligent driving, failure to stop at a red signal and failure to obey a traffic device. Callahan was driving north on York Road when his truck broadsided Wheatley’s car as it turned onto southbound York Road from Corbett Road.
Hill said Callahan could pay the fines associated with each citation and have points put on his driving record, or go to court to fight the citations.
He said county police investigated the accident and the state’s attorney's office made the decision to issue traffic citations.
“There was no intent here. This was just a tragic accident,” Hill said.
