County Executive Jim Smith wants to create a “purple wave” of support for the Baltimore Raven’s playoff run.

Smith announced Dec. 31 that he is going to bathe the Old Courthouse in purple light.

The Ravens face the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the playoffs on Jan. 4.

“Although the Ravens are a regional treasure, we are very proud that they call Baltimore County home,” Smith said in a press release. “I encourage everyone in Baltimore County to show their support for our team by lighting their homes with purple lights. This season has that very special Super Bowl feeling that we all remember so well.”

Purple colored covers, called gels, are placed on the lights illuminating the courthouse building giving the white marble a purple hue.

The courthouse was last illuminated purple in 2007.

Well... it's certain... Two thirds of the World is covered by water, and the rest is covered by ED REED. :-)
