An Edmondson Heights man, who tried to rob a Catonsville Dunkin’ Donuts at gunpoint, was stopped by an off-duty police officer, according to Baltimore County police.
The incident occurred about 7:40 p.m. Tuesday at the Dunkin’ Donuts in the 800 block of Frederick Road.
A man wearing a shirt over his face walked into the store, drew a handgun and demanded money from the cash registers, county police reported.
A customer standing next to him was an off-duty officer with the Aberdeen Proving Ground police. The officer drew his own handgun, ordered the man to the floor and asked another customer to call 911, police said.
Nothing was reported stolen.
Michael East Reid, 29, of the 1500 block of Ingleside Avenue, is charged with attempted robbery and attempted armed robbery, according to court records.
He was being held in the Baltimore County Detention Center Wednesday, his bail set at $50,000, according to Officer Rachel Aiosa, of the Wilkens Station.
An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported the charges.
