A fire that destroyed two vacant buildings at Owings Mills’ Rosewood Center on March 8 is being investigated as arson by the state fire marshal’s office.
“There’s no electric (power) to the building, the weather was fine, so there are no accidental (factors) to the cause,” said Tim Warner, deputy state fire marshal.
The two-alarm fire began in one building at Axis Court and Jensen Lane at 4:33 p.m., then spread to a second building, Baltimore County fire and rescue spokeswoman Elise Armacost said.
There were no injuries in the incident, which involved 24 career and volunteer fire units.
Rosewood Center, which is set to close by the end of this year and now houses fewer than 80 residents, has had other small and major fires in recent years.
“There’s been quite a few. About two or three years ago, we had another building burn down, and we have been out there for a few smaller things,” said Warner, noting that those were also similar cases of arson. No suspects have been apprehended in connection with those cases. “It’s been a continuous problem out there with juveniles going out there (to possibly start fires).”
Several weeks ago, a juvenile who was living at Rosewood also set a small fire in one of the buildings, Warner said.
