Baltimore Messenger staff writer Adam Bednar has won three awards in the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association's annual journalism contest.The awards were announced April 24.

Bednar won first place for feature profile writing for a story about a surprise birthday party for Hampdenite Jack Barr (being serenaded at right).

Bednar also won first place for local government reporting for a story about malfunctioning ventilation systems in city firehouses, and second place for continuing coverage of the battle between Roland Park and the Keswick Multi-Care Center over Keswick's ultimately dropped plan to build a 343-bed retirement center off Falls Road.
