Middle River man dies in fatal crash

A 42-year-old man was killed when the SUV he was driving hit two light poles and he was ejected in a single-car accident this morning.
Geralde Tompson, of the 200 block of Shagbark Road in Middle River, was driving south at 8:49 a.m. on Martin Boulevard near East Compass Road in Middle River and talking to his wife on his cell phone, according to Baltimore County police.
Tompson’s wife told police that her husband had just dropped their children off at school and was complaining of feeling sick.
The 2000 Ford Expedition Tompson was driving left the road and crossed Martin Boulevard and East Compass Road.
The vehicle left the road a second time and struck a post supporting a light pole on the driver’s side. The impact of that collision appears to have severed Tompson’s seatbelt, police said.
The vehicle then spun counter-clockwise and struck another light pole and Tompson was ejected from the SUV. He was declared dead at the scene, police said.
Speed and weather were not a factor and the accident continues to be under investigation, police said.
