Baltimore County has purchased the Perring Racquet Club, in Parkville, for $3.9 million. It will be renamed the Northeast Regional Recreation Center.

The county bought the 93,000-square-foot indoor athletic club at 7501 Oakleigh Road from Oakleigh Road Property, LLC. The facility holds two indoor fields for soccer and lacrosse, and four indoor tennis courts.

Some renovations need to be done before the county turns the property over to recreation councils in the Parkville area. The renovations to the 36-year-old facility include installing a new artificial grass surface on one soccer field, installing an all-glass dasher board around the field, repairing the exterior facade, installing sprinkler and alarm systems and upgrading entrances and exits according to American Disabilities Act requirements.

Renovations, which began today, will cost about $2.5 million. Work is expected to be complete by October.

The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks will manage the renovated facility. The recreation councils that will use the center include Parkville, Overlea/Fullerton, Perry Hall, White Marsh/Kingsville, Greater Loch Raven, Towson and Towsontowne.
