Five students at Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Pikesville have tested positive for the H1N1 swine flu, according to state and county health officials.
Details were not immediately available but Monique Lyle, a county Health Department spokeswoman, said the department became aware of the cases on Sunday.
The strain of flu was confirmed through tests performed by the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene laboratory.
Exactly how the five students contracted the illness was not immediately known, Lyle said.
“We’re not tracking travel history any more because we know it’s here in the U.S. now,” Lyle said. “We know it’s circulating.”
All five people who were sick had mild symptoms that resolved within 24 to 48 hours.
None required hospitalization.
