Rosemarie McCloskey

Rosemarie McCloskey of Catonsville died Aug. 11, 2008.

She was 78.

Daughter of the late Carl and Anastasia (Farrell) Seydel, she was born May 24, 1930, in Philadelphia.

Mrs. McCloskey completed a bachelor's degree in Spanish at Rosemont College. A fitness center at the Pennsylvania school was later named in her honor.

She taught in an elementary school for one year.

Mrs. McCloskey placed great value upon education; her six daughters also earned college diplomas.

As an executive's wife, she was skilled in entertaining with her husband of 55 years, William McCloskey. They owned a second home in Ocean City, N.J.

The couple was well traveled, including 26 trips to Ireland.

In 2000, a grand tour of that country was made with 17 other family members.

Mrs. McCloskey volunteered as a Eucharistic minister at St. Mark Church.

She served as acting president of the Gateway Club of Catonsville until the time of her death.

She also belonged to the Rolling Road Golf Club.

Mrs. McCloskey assisted her spouse with responsibilities in leading the Emerald Isle Club and in chairing Baltimore's Irish Festival.

An avid reader, she also enjoyed movies and gardening with a specialty for growing roses.

In August of 2004, she suffered a stroke.

Mr. McCloskey and their children subsequently provided 24-hour care in meeting all her needs. They expressed their gratitude for the competency and kindness of the staff in St. Agnes Hospital's cardiac care unit.

In addition to her husband, survivors include daughters Mary Ann, Colleen and Patricia McCloskey, plus Sheila Wheltle with Raymond, all of Catonsville; Jacqueline Mittleman, of Menasha, Wis., and Eileen Delaney with Timothy, of Linthicum.

Also, Alex Mittleman, Billy, Casey, Patrick and Molly Wheltle, Kevin and Mary Delaney, her grandchildren; plus a sister, Ann Connors with Leo, of Bethlehem, Pa.

Relatives and friends conveyed their condolences at the Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. Mark Chapel.

Mrs. McCloskey was buried in Cathedral Gardens, Elkridge.

Memorial contributions in her name may be sent to Rosemont College, 1400 Montgomery Ave., Rosemont, PA 19010.

Michael Kostinsky

On Aug. 25, 2008, Michael Kostinsky died from cardiac arrest at his desk in Sorrento of Arbutus, the restaurant and catering business which he owned and operated.

The Ellicott City resident was 56.

Mr. Kostinsky, who holds a bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation, was an active member of the National Federation of Independent Businesses and the Arbutus Business and Professional Association.

Mr. Kostinsky exercised avidly with four weekly workout sessions at the Merritt Athletic Club, Woodlawn, in addition to boxing and playing squash.

He is survived by his wife, Ella (Granger) Kostinsky; Brandon Kostinsky, his son; his mother, Kathryn Kostinsky, who resides in the Charlestown retirement community; and siblings, Harry Grant, of Ellicott City, Karen Cohen, of Palm Harbor, Fla.,

Leon Kostinsky preceded his son in death as did a brother, Louis Grant.

The Hubbard Funeral Home scheduled visitation hours.

A service was conducted Aug. 29 in Bethany United Methodist Church, Ellicott City.

Entombment followed in Meadowridge Memorial Park.
