Former Catonsville resident Martin O. Walter, 78, died in his Ellicott City home Aug. 18, 2008.
Mr. Walter attended Calvert Hall College High School where he was a four-year starter on the varsity basketball team.
As "a lanky freshman," he was the team's starting center, according to the 1947 Cardinal and Gold yearbook, and as a sophomore he averaged 16 points a game to lead the team in scoring.
In his junior year, the school's 1949 yearbook noted that Mr. Walter scored 541 points for a team-high 23 points per game as he led the Catholic champions to a 22-3 record.
As a senior, he averaged 18 points a game for the 21-3 Cardinals.
Mr. Walter spent his entire professional career with the Westinghouse Corp.
Joan Walter preceded her husband in death as did siblings Margaret Thompson and Philip Walter.
He is survived by his six children: Michael Walter with spouse April, of Easton; Donna Beitler, of Baltimore; Mary Jo Jansen with Michael, of Halethorpe; Thomas Walter with Elizabeth, of Catonsville; Anthony Walter, of Westminster and Kathleen Bonney, of Catonsville.
Surviving also is a brother, William Walter, and 17 grandchildren.
Relatives and friends paid their respects at the Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered in St. Joseph Monastery Church.
Interment followed in Loudon Park Cemetery.
Robert Holler
Catonsville resident Robert D. Holler, 85, died Aug. 3, 2008.
He was born July 26, 1923 to the late Joseph and Lucy Holler.
After graduating from the University of Baltimore, Mr. Holler worked for the Westinghouse Corp. as an accountant.
He was later employed by Baltimore Sales Book.
Mr. Holler proudly served in the U.S. Army, Company M, 311th Infantry, 78th Division.
During World War II, he was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded the Purple Heart several times.
Mr. Holler belonged to Doyle Dickey Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and Dewey Lowman American Legion Post 109.
He also volunteered at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Baltimore.
His family enjoyed relaxing in their vacation home in Moatsville, W.Va.
Mr. Holler served as the primary caregiver for his wife, Icie, until her death in 2005.
Granddaughter Kimberly Wedderein plus siblings Jess, Loy and Burl Holler and Arlene Lindsay preceded him in death.
Surviving relatives include his children, Kenneth Holler with spouse Carolyn, of Timonium; Donald Holler with Deana, of Catonsville; Norman Holler with Janet, of Taylorsville; Terry Holler with Liz, of Catonsville, and Arlene Reyerson with Jerome, of Bel Air.
Also, grandchildren, Lori Zorick with Seth, Jessica Hansell with Michael, Jason Holler with Kristine, Nathan and Matthew Reyerson, Justin, Brian, Ashley, Christine and Krista Holler and Michael Wedderein.
Great-grandchildren Alex and Joshua Wedderein, Alexis Jacobs and Samuel Booth and John Holler, his brother, also survive.
Visitation hours were scheduled at the Sterling-Ashton-Schwab-Witzke Funeral Home.
A service was conducted in Catonsville United Methodist Church, where Mr. Holler worshiped.

Virginia Miller
On Aug. 31, 208, Virginia Arneta (Wertley) Miller died from complications related to a stroke.
She was 92 and resided at the Charlestown retirement community.
Mrs. Miller had worked as a beautician.
As a homemaker, her hobbies included gardening, painting, ceramics and needlework.
Lawrence Miller preceded his wife in death.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Miller Ciotola with husband Dr. Joseph Ciotola, of Grasonville; grandchildren Alyson Ciotola and Dr. Joseph John Ciotola with spouse Lisa; Sophia Ciotola, her great-granddaughter; two sisters Frances King, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Christina Cox, of Pennsville, N.J., plus several nieces and nephews.
Loudon Park Funeral Home assisted the family with final arrangements.
The Rev. Leo Larrivee presided at a Mass of Christian Burial on Sept. 4 in Our Lady of the Angels Chapel on the Charlestown campus.
Father Larrivee was offering a Palm Sunday Vigil Mass in 1997 when Mr. Miller died in the same chapel.
