Dr. Hector F. Paul DiNardo

Dr. Hector F. Paul DiNardo Jr., 81, died Jan. 4 after a brief illness.
Until his death, Dr. DiNardo was a member of the dean’s faculty at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Endodontics, Prosthodontic and Operative Dentistry.
He was a graduate of Loyola High School, Loyola College and the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he was a member of the Gorgas Honor Society.
Dr. DiNardo was a recognized leader in the field of dental ergonomics and traveled extensively to teach performance logic through the Human Performance Institute and the Institute of Dental Ergonomics in Osaka, Japan. He introduced the technique to leading U.S. and Asian teaching hospitals.
Dr. DiNardo practiced dentistry for more than 50 years and established the largest practice in Maryland. He was chairman of the Baltimore County Board of Health for 13 years, president of the Baltimore County Dental Association, served on the board of Stella Maris and was a member of the admission committee at the
University of Maryland School of Dentistry.
A standout wrestler in college and high school, he was a member of the varsity football and lacrosse teams and, in later years, enjoyed competing in tennis, sailing, skiing and golf.
He served in the U.S. Army’s 11th Airborne, 9th Corp., and was stationed in Sendai, Japan, where he served in the medical unit, orthopedics division. He also served in the U.S. Public Heath Service in San Francisco.
Dr. DiNardo was the son of Mary Louisa and Hector DiNardo Sr. and brother of Emily Garbo, all of whom preceded him in death.
Father of eight children and grandfather of 16, Dr. DiNardo was married for 57 years to Margaret Meekins, who lives in Timonium.
He is survived also by his children, Mary Jo McCrone of Baldwin; Mary Lou DiNardo of New York; Hector DiNardo III of Stewartstown, Pa.; Ignatius DiNardo of Salisbury; Mary Kay Senft of Timonium; Peter DiNardo of Berlin, Md.; Edmund DiNardo of Timonium; and Mary Margaret Adams of Sparks; and his sister, Elizabeth DiNardo of Timonium.
